A Pretoria-based military company is at the centre of a security row in Iraq

South African-based Erinys International (AC Vol 45 No 4) and its affiliate Erinys Iraq have secured the renewal of their US$50 million contract, awarded by Iraq's Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), to provide security guards and instructors. This came in the face of sustained public criticism of their track record and alleged closeness to Iraqi National Congress leader and former close United States' ally, Ahmed Chalabi. Iraq's new Prime Minister and current Interior Minister, Ayad Allawi, publicly criticised Ahmed Chalabi last December for 'undermining central authority' by creating a private military company for the Erinys contract....
