The would-be opposition leader must unite his own side before tackling Mugabe

The new leader of half of the Movement for Democratic Change, Arthur Mutambara, is a man with a plan. His short-term aim is to end the pointless split in the MDC over the leadership of Morgan Tsvangirai, after his decision to boycott last year's Senate elections (AC Vol 47 No 2). In the longer term, Mutambara (39) wants to win the national leadership which, in theory, falls vacant in 2008, when the presidential term of President Robert Mugabe (82 last month) expires....
