Negotiations between Khartoum and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in 2003-05 diverted attention from Khartoum’s mass murder and ethnic cleansing in Darfur; now the Islamist regime is exploiting the reverse effect – actively unravelling the Comprehensive Peace Agreement as outsiders focus on Darfur.
