The suspension by President Thabo Mbeki of the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Vusi Pikoli, may foreshadow a constitutional crisis. At the very least, it embitters the contest for a new leader of the governing African National Congress, which formally opened on 1 October and will last until a vote at the ANC national conference on 16-20 December. Furthermore, it exposes turf wars among the state security departments, which reflect the struggles within the ANC and its trades union and communist allies....
