The choice of academic Eugène Mangalaza as Prime Minister after a marathon meeting in Antananarivo on 6 October has broken the deadlock over the make-up of the new interim government, which is to run Madagascar until elections in 15 months' time. Before the new regime can be established, however, the accord must be signed by the current protagonists - ousted President Marc Ravalomanana and his usurper, 34-year-old Andry Rajoelina - and former Presidents Didier Ratsiraka and Albert Zafy. All four were present at the signing of an accord backed by the African Union in Maputo, Mozambique, on 9 August, which laid out an agenda for power-sharing in Madagascar....
