The lucrative commercial and political networks between France and Africa have survived a remarkable month in the French courts but more embarrassing cases are coming soon. On 27 October, a court in the Palais de Justice in Paris handed down sentences in the Angolagate arms trafficking case (AC Vol 49 No 25). Jean-Christophe Mitterrand, son of the late President François Mitterrand, was fined 350,000 euros (US$519,330) and given a year's suspended gaol sentence; ex-Interior Minister Charles Pasqua was sentenced to three years' gaol (two suspended); and his aide Jean-Charles Marchiani got three years (21 months suspended)....
