A UN report says the Darfur war is far from over and Khartoum is the main protagonist and procurer of arms

The opening sentence of the 27 October Report by the United Nations Panel of Experts on Sudan, released last week, demolishes the notion that the Darfur war is over. 'Most of the major armed actors in the Darfur conflict have continued to exercise their military options, violate the United Nations arms embargo and international humanitarian and human rights law, and impede the peace process.' The outgoing Commander of the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur, General Martin Luther Agwai, and the Joint UN-AU Special Representative on Darfur, Rodolphe Adada, whose contract the UN failed to renew in September, had declared the war to be over....
