Khartoum’s hopes of removal from the United States’ state sponsors of terrorism list took a knock on 5 April when Israel bombed a vehicle near Port Sudan, killing two. Independent Palestinian news agency Ma’an said the target was Abdel Lateef al Ashqar, chief weapons officer of the Harakat al Muqawama al Islamiya (Hamas) who coordinated weapons smuggling to Gaza, where Hamas rules. Khartoum’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) said Israel’s aim was to prevent Washington removing Sudan from its terrorist list and it would complain to the United Nations Security Council....
