The suspense is over. Frelimo, the ruling party once known as the Frente de Libertação de Moçambique, has named Armando Guebuza as its Secretary General and presidential candidate for the 2004 election (AC Vol 43 No 4). Political veteran 'Guebas' was strongly opposed by his old opponent, the increasingly lame-duck President Joaquim Chissano, who announced last year that he would not stand again as national president but would hold on to the party leadership....
