Fixing Kinshasa's broken boulevards

Agreed in November 2009, the second phase of infrastructure deals associated with the Sicomines joint venture is worth US$400 million and is expected to provide Congolese President Joseph Kabila with a list of projects about which he can boast in the 2011 national elections. The first phase of infrastructure projects was already underway while Kinshasa was debating the debt implications of the deal with the International Monetary Fund
