President Pierre Nkurunziza was in India 17-19 September to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee. He left with a US$80 million credit line for Kabu-16, a 20-megawatt hydroelectric project on the Kaburantwa River, and $42 mn. for a farm mechanisation and food processing complex, to steer Burundi toward food self-sufficiency. After the India-Africa Summits of 2008 and 2011, Burundi has received vocational training programmes, scholarships and other development projects. Indian investors are interested in its largely untapped reserves of uranium, platinum and vanadium.
