As polling stations closed on 14 April, activists were predicting the end of coalition government. With the African National Congress set to win a two-thirds majority, many ANC supporters questioned the need to remain in coalition with Mangosuthu Buthelezi's Inkatha Freedom Party. Both Buthelezi and ANC President Thabo Mbeki have refused to be drawn.
