Cleared by cash

A cash-for-immunity deal brokered in 2014 by Swiss lawyers between the then President Goodluck Jonathan's government and two sons of the late General Sani Abacha, Mohammed and Abba, is soon expected to pay off again. On 8 March in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari's Attorney General and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, and the head of the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, Didier Burkalter, signed a non-legally-binding letter of intent to repatriate US$321 million of Abacha family loot so long as the World Bank monitors how the funds are spent.
