The road from Nyala to El Geneina

Between Kass and El Geneina, there was not one village that had not been burnt. Between Zalingei and Geneina, Africa Confidential counted 18 villages destroyed, some of them substantial. In South and West Darfur virtually no villages remain. Some burnt villages have been taken over by Arab families. Vast herds of cattle roaming over farmland are mostly stolen from villages: one herd was 3 kilometres long. Meat prices are very low, grain has skyrocketed. Janjaweed drive stolen livestock and other booty down to Foro Burunga on the border, to be sold into Chad.
