Two trumpeteers overboard

The forced exit of National Security Advisor General Michael Flynn and his Africa advisor, Marine Sergeant Robin Townley, from United States President Donald Trump's government this week are the first blow by the Central Intelligence Agency against those appointees it considers dangerously unorthodox if not determinedly hostile. Last week, the website Politico reported that Townley's request for top-level security clearance – 'Sensitive Compartmentalised Information' – had been rejected by a CIA vetting team, a decision endorsed by the new CIA Director Mike Pompeo.
