The race to the national elections on 7 December is getting closer
and noisier. Despite the governing New Patriotic Party's mixed
record on the economy, it remains a narrow favourite to win both
the presidency and a parliamentary majority. Yet the National
Democratic Congress could still spring surprises, perhaps helped
by the small parties which held the balance of power after the
2000 elections. The 30 new constituencies created for these elections
are expected to split more or less evenly between NPP and NDC.
