President Olusegun Obasanjo and his team of economic reformers face a moment of truth this year. A long list of economic reforms on state accountability and the structure of the oil and gas industry are waiting for approval by the National Assembly and implementation by government. If these reforms are stalled again this year they could fall off the political agenda for several years; failure this year would mean there's little prospect of them being implemented before the 2007 presidential and national elections.
