The ethnic factor

The Coalition for Unity and Democracy appeals to Amhara nationalism, which the ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front calls chauvinism. The CUD wants to get rid of the nine large, ethnic states and create more small ones in which the widely dispersed Amhara would have more weight.
