A province says no

In Western Cape, the ANC didn't dance to the national leadership's tune

National leaders of the governing African National Congress, including President Thabo Mbeki's ally Zola Skweyiya, the Minister for Social Development, publicly supported Ebrahim Rasool for the premiership of Western Cape Province. However, the ANC's provincial conference on 10-11 June defied the central leadership and rejected him as their chairman. Next, Mbeki's favoured candidates may face unexpected challenges at the party conferences and elections that are due in Free State and Limpopo over the next month. The centre may not be as all-powerful as it seemed.
