Africa's ambitions to get two permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council are suspended until the end of the year when the troubled issue of its expansion and reform will be raised again in the UN General Assembly (GA). UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has outlined two models of UNSC reform. Model A proposes six new permanent seats with no veto and three new two-year permanent seats, bringing the total to 24. Africa would get two no-veto permanent seats and four two-year non-renewable seats. Africa would still be the only region without a veto, though over 60 per cent of UNSC business concerns Africa.
