Jackie Selebi's appointment as the first black Police Commissioner was initially well received. In August 2004, he was elected as the first African President of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). However, Selebi's unconvincing replies to questions about his relations with people linked to the demise of Brett Kebble have fuelled a growing campaign for his dismissal.
