Growing tensions between Khartoum and the Government of Southern Sudan in Juba (see feature) may be linked to a new accommodation on the management of oil. Sudan is pumping over 500,000 barrels per day with a further 100,000 bpd under development. According to London oil traders, a deal was hammered out during GOSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit's visit to London last month.
