After weeks of negotiations, many expected President Abdoulaye Wade to announce the return of former Prime Minister Idrissa Seck to the governing Parti Démocratique Sénégalais and an electoral deal for the presidential elections on 25 February. Wade's clique had expelled Seck from the PDS and, in 2004, he was gaoled on charges of corruption and destabilising the state.
