Things turned nasty in late July, when the Minister of Justice, Carmelita Pires, and the Public Prosecutor, Luis Manuel Cabral, received death threats. This was due to their persistent inquiries into the seizure of 500 kilogrammes of drugs and the arrest of six passengers from two Venezuelan aircraft that landed at Bissau airport on 17 July.
