The Presidents of Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Hosni Mubarak and Zine el Abidine Ben Ali, got an unexpected boost from the atrocities of 11 September. They brought them international acknowledgment for their crackdowns on revolutionary Islamists and hope of Western support in building up their military arsenals. Apart from that, the world has not changed all that much: they expect business as usual.
