Washington lobbyists stake claim

In the run-up to last year's United States' presidential election, the neo-conservative Michael Ledeen persuaded Democratic Party politicians (normally his sworn opponents) to support the 'Stop Vulture Funds Bill'. He claimed that the billionaire behind the Elliott Associates 'vulture fund' was Paul Singer, a main financial backer of the bid for the US Presidency by Rudy Giuliani, the popular Republican former Mayor of New York.
