Death of a Sudanese activist

British police are investigating whether the murder of Sudanese human rights activist Abdel Salam Hassan Abdel Salam in south London on the night of 12-13 March was political or purely criminal. Abdel Salam, 56, who was stabbed to death in a prolonged attack at home but was not robbed, was widely believed to be helping the International Criminal Court gather evidence to prosecute Khartoum officials for war crimes in Darfur. The brutal murder of a much loved human rights activist has fuelled fear among Sudanese.
