The Speaker's chair

Members of Parliament are due to vote for a new Speaker in a contest that could determine the next president should 87-year-old President Robert Mugabe be declared medically unfit for office. In that event, Parliament and the Senate have to elect an interim President, which is likely to spark a fierce battle between the two main parties, the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) and Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). Parliament reconvenes on 24 March.
