Jitters as Bozizé dumps ally

The Finance Minister’s sacking is a sop to donors and a sign of the government’s fragility

After nine years at the President’s right hand, Finance and Budget Minister Sylvain Ndoutingaï finds himself out in the cold. Ndoutingaï, who is also General François Bozizé’s nephew, managed the ethnic and kinship-based patronage networks in government appointments. He was dismissed a month after claims he was involved in a coup attempt and shortly before the International Monetary Fund announced on 25 June the start of a US$63 million, three-year facility.
