What Juba gets from the oil deal

Oil production from Unity State is expected to begin in ‘about three weeks’, said a source close to the deal on 12 March. Fields in Upper Nile, meanwhile, are expected to take ‘about seven weeks’ to come on stream. When the first agreement on resuming oil exports was reached in August 2012, supplies were expected to take much longer to come on stream: in Upper Nile, about six months; in Unity State, 10-12 months, Petroleum and Mining Minister Stephen Dhieu Dau announced at the time.
