Gems make friends

After intense lobbying by Belgium, on 24 September the European Union lifted its ban on diamond imports from the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation and its partners – Marange Resources, Canadile, Mbada, Kimberworth Investments and Diamond Mining Corporation. The 2002 EU ban was imposed because the ZMDC was believed to be channelling funds to President Robert Mugabe. Now, a delighted Antwerp World Diamond Centre is inviting members to ‘an exclusive networking lunch in the presence of the local Zimbabwean diamond industry’ on 25 October in Harare.
