Ransom? Moi?

Delight at the safe release of French hostages Thierry Dol, Marc Féret, Daniel Larribe and Pierre Legrand on 29 October was dampened by suggestions that President François Hollande’s approval of a 20 million euro ransom was responsible. French daily Le Monde claimed that French intelligence had paid Al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb for the release of the men, who were seized from the mining town of Arlit in 2010.
