Hunt loses momentum

The fraud and embezzlement case against Karim Wade, son of ex-President Abdoulaye Wade, has changed from an open-and-shut case into a legal labyrinth, thanks to the defendant's lawyers. It has now reached the highest tier of the judicial system, after the Supreme Court referred it to the Constitutional Court. This now has two months to decide whether the special prosecuting body, the Cour de répression d’enrichissement illicite (Court for the suppression of illicit enrichment), was itself lawfully constituted (AC Vol 54 No 14, Presidential wobbles).
