Ping's pop at Ali

The former Chairman of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping, has broken his studied silence on Gabon’s domestic politics. He has disavowed any relationship with the governing Parti démocratique gabonais (PDG), of which he has long been a senior member. Indeed, Ping has held nearly every Gabonese ministerial post on offer, including the Foreign Affairs portfolio for nine years, and was a pillar of the late President Omar Bongo Ondimba’s regime. Now he has floated the idea of running for the presidency in 2016, surprising many people.
