Shoot on sight

Chad's policy of summarily shooting presumed criminals 'is working', Foreign Affairs Minister Saleh Kebzabo declared on 11 January. Since President Idriss Déby's November order to security forces to 'execute' criminals caught in the act, 'We no longer experience the previous levels of violence', he said. The Chadian League of Human Rights says dozens of people have been killed, especially street children.
