Poll date set

The Commission électorale nationale indépendante (CENI, the electoral commission) has named 27 November as the date for the next parliamentary and presidential elections. The announcement came on 12 February, two days after Russ Feingold, United States Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region, had urged that the electoral calendar be published and that there should be no delay to the presidential poll. Shortly before, Parliament had rejected a law that would have postponed elections until after a census had been completed (AC Vol 56 No 3).
