Afrikaner farmers move north, funded by the EU and some mysterious benefactors

One hundred and sixty years after the 'Great Trek' of Afrikaners from the Western Cape into the interior, a smaller, more bizarre trek is under way. Under government sponsorship, Boers are moving north of the Limpopo to introduce large-scale farming. The launch pad is the Niassa province of Mozambique, devastated by almost 30 years of warfare, but potentially rich. This Afrikaner trek aims to create a 'food corridor' from Angola to Mozambique, with Afrikaner agribusiness investing heavily in commercial farming, food processing and ecotourism.
