Peace hopes are rising again after the 19-20 January talks at the Hague between President Domitien Ndayizéyé and Agathon Rwasa, leader of the only militia still fighting, the Parti pour la Libération du Peuple Hutu-Forces Nationales pour la Libération (Palipehutu-FNL). Rwasa's delegation agreed to meet again and the final communiqué called the President 'father of the nation' instead of Palipehutu-FNL's usual 'sell-out stooge of the Tutsi oppressors' (AC Vol 45 No 2).
