Truce trouble

Leaders of the Tuareg armed groups fighting for the recognition of northern Mali as an autonomous or independent Azawad face the challenge of keeping supporters on board following the 1 March peace deal in Algiers. Negotiators for the Mouvement national de libération de l'Azawad (MNLA) and the Haut conseil pour l'unité de l'Azawad (HCUA) have not formally signed the deal but seem to have accepted it in principle. It envisages limited devolution of power to elected councils in the north.
