Clean up for donors

Lusaka is buzzing with preparations for a crucial meeting of the Consultative Group of donors in the city on 16-19 July. The government is hoping for US$605 million for next year; over half that is expected to be pledged but not all will turn into disbursed cash. Like Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania, Zambia is allowing civil society into the hitherto closed meeting (meaning 'respectable' non-governmental organisations) but not opposition parties.
