Commentary: The third in a line of inspector generals accused of corruption, Mike Okiro was mentioned in a name and shame list of bad debtors, released by the Central Bank in July 2009. The 166 million naira loan he received from Lead Bank added to the troubles that brought the bank down. Okiro said he used the money to procure a pipeline contract. 

Okiro was the first ever Igbo to become Inspector General of Police. He retired in 2009.
