My country right and left

The seven presidential candidates and parties contesting the 7 December elections offer an odd mix of professed ideologies and political histories. For 50 years, Ghanaian political allegiance has been built around two nationalist heroes: the socialist and first President, Kwame Nkrumah, and the conservative J.B. Danquah, who initially led the nationalist movement, only to die in prison during Nkrumah's first government. For decades, there was huge personal and ideological antipathy between the two traditions.
