Once known for his firey anti-Chinese rhetoric, Zambian President Michael Sata has moved on. He now refers to China as a partner who must behave responsibly in return for Zambia’s mineral wealth. To this end, he and Mines Minister Wylbur Simuusa entertained Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao and 150 Chinese executives at State House on 29 October. Simuusa told his guests that China ‘cannot be ignored’, while Zhou reminded his countrymen to follow Zambia’s laws.
