Big Ben Ali strikes

Few things escape the watchful and computerised eyes of the Presidency

Zine el Abidine Ben Ali showed off his self-confidence by spending 20 March, the 40th anniversary of Independence, being filmed on a visit to Habib Bourguiba, the President-for-Life whom he eased out of office. Bourguiba, now in his nineties, has lived in near seclusion on his estate at Monastir since November 1987. On television, he looked extremely feeble.
