Issoufou woos

From the lofty vantage point of his 92.5% victory in the presidential election on 20 March, President Mahamadou Issoufou is offering opposition members government places. Having boycotted the second round of the poll, many still refuse to accept him as President. His opponent in that round, Hama Amadou, remains in the American Hospital of Paris, in the suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, where he was transferred from gaol in Niamey, on government orders, four days before the final ballot. Amadou still scored 7.5% despite the boycott on a turnout of just under 60%.
