Pardoning Karim Wade weakens Macky Sall's political reform programme. But he has other aims, and other opponents

The release on 24 June of Karim Wade, son of the previous President, immediately stirred suspicion that President Macky Sall had one eye on next year's elections. Karim, 47, was pardoned after serving three years of a six-year sentence for corruption.
