Somalia

Coordinated exit

In June, General Edward Katumba Wamala, Chief of the Defence Forces, announced plans to withdraw Ugandan troops from Somalia by the end of 2017. That echoed recent signs from Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Foreign Minister, Amina Mohammed, that Kenya was reconsidering its participation in the African Union Mission in Somalia. Yet it is not the first time Uganda has made this threat and few believe either country has any real intention of leaving Amisom.
