Another Kenya army base hit

The Kenya Defence Force suffered a devastating blow at the hands of Al Haraka al Shabaab al Mujahideen on 27 January when the jihadists overran an army base at Kulbiyow (sometimes Kolbio) on the Kenya/Somalia border, killing an estimated 68 soldiers. It came just over twelve months after Al Shabaab overran the El Adde KDF camp on 15 January last year, when possibly 150 or more Kenyan soldiers were killed by the Islamist militia in a combined suicide bomb and infantry attack (AC Vol 57 No 5). It had long been suspected that Al Shabaab would want to mark the anniversary of one of its most successful operations ever against the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) force.
