Uhuru sweats as Raila rallies

The opposition is eating into Jubilee's lead while ethnic tensions are worryingly persistent despite leaders' attempt to cool them

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Jubilee Party of Kenya can feel the breath of the serial presidential candidate, Raila Amolo Odinga, on the back of his neck. The latest opinion poll reduces Kenyatta's previous double-digit lead over the candidate of the National Super Alliance to five points (see Feature). Food shortages have not helped the incumbent and neither has the unexpected unity of the fractious four Nasa leaders. Raila, (Wycliffe) Musalia Mudavadi, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Simiyu Wetangula are keeping firm their ethnic coalition of Luo, Luhya, Coastal peoples and some of the Kamba.
