Fraud claims fail to convince

The establishment parties want an election re-run to stop George Weah, but it's putting them at odds with President Johnson Sirleaf

Liberia's Supreme Court has acceded to claims by four major political parties – including the governing Unity Party – that there was fraud during the first round of the general election on 10 October. Having suspended the poll the Supreme Court looks set to decide next week on a new date for the second round, originally scheduled for 7 November. The four parties have astonished President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's influential friends overseas by accusing her of trying to fix the election in favour of the Coalition for Democratic Change candidate George Weah and seeking to force a re-run.
